Description

The Design Committee will evaluate the current and future use of the Bone Student Center. They will address how to revitalize the building through physical and operational improvements, and help the Bone Student Center better serve its users and the campus community. A project timeline for design and construction is being developed to coordinate with the design process for the Student Fitness and Kinesiology/ Recreation Building.

Updates:

  • The initial meeting for this project was held August 16, 2006.
  • The Design Committee members continue to develop a program to revitalize approximately 50,000 square feet of the building and identify the potential impacts.
  • Both the Bone Student Center and Student Fitness and Kinesiology/ Recreation Building Committees met for joint discussion on March 20, 2007.
  • The Design Committee members had a tour of the Student Government space on April 13, 2007.
  • The Design Committee members reviewed the marketing presentation on April 20, 2007, provided by ISU Business Students Friday.
  • The Design Committee members held a meeting on Friday, April 27 to discuss the space program for the Bone Student Center Revitalization.
  • The committee met and developed a priorities list of issues to be addressed in the revitalization effort on July 27, 2007.
  • Facilities Planning will be attending a conference related to the BSC revitalization project at the end of September of 2007. Facilities Planning will present project consultant selection criteria at the October Board of Trustees meeting.
  • The University is engaging an Operations and Management Consultant that specializes in Student Unions to study the issues affecting the Bone Student Center and the appropriate strategies to remedy. In the interim, other minor remodeling projects will still proceed that fit within the scope and direction of the overall intentions for the building. After the Consultants complete their task, an Architect will be hired to develop construction documents with construction possibly starting in 2010, if not sooner.
